Video slots approval likely

The Rhode Island Lottery Commission is slated to vote today on a proposal that would allow for an additional 1,825video lottery terminals in the state.

The machines, which would be added to Lincoln Greyhound Park and Newport Grand Jai Alai, eventually would generate an extra $100 million a year or more in state tax revenue. State officials last week signaled that approval of the plan is likely.

Gov. Don Carcieri and state lawmakers have said they plan to boost the state’s share of the revenues from Lincoln (52 percent) and Newport Jai Alai (57.5 percent) through legislation this session. Each facility gets 30 percent of revenues.
