Washington Trust increases dividend

The Board of Directors of Washington Trust Bancorp, Inc., has declared a quarterly dividend of 14 cents per share for the quarter ending March 31, 2002.

The dividend is payable April 15, 2002 to shareholders of record on April 4, 2002. The dividend is a 7.7 percent increase over the 13 cents per share paid in each of the previous four quarters.
