New London port seen as alternative for moving goods from NY to NE

A recent study suggests that State Pier in New London could offer a cheaper, cleaner alternative to transporting goods from New York to New England.

The study, conducted by Management & Transportation Associates of Essex, Conn., found that a container barge service could save more than $36 million a year, based on the current volume of 230,000 truckloads moving into the region during 1999.
