Citizens lowers prime lending rate

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Following last Wednesday’s decision by the Federal Reserve board to lower interest rates a quarter of a percentage point, Citizens Financial Group said it would decrease its prime lending rate at its banks in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Citizens’ new rate of 6.75 percent went into effect on June 28. Local banks FleetBoston Financial and Bank Rhode Island also lowered their prime lending rates to 6.75 percent last week.
