R.I. jobless rate going up

PROVIDENCE — The jobless (unemployment) rate in Rhode Island rose to 4 percent in March, compared with 3.6 percent in February and 4.2 percent a year ago, the Department of Labor and Training reported. Nationally unemployment reached 4.3 percent in March. The RIDL&T reported 20l, 400 unemployed in March, compared with 18,300 in February. However, the DL&T reported, jobs in Rhode Island increased in the last year from 467.000 a year ago to 472,500 in March of this year. All major industries, except manufacturing, increased their employees over the year, led by services and trade. Manufacturing lost 1,600 jobs DL&T reported.
