Boston Stock Exchange sets record for volume of sales

BOSTON — The Boston Stock Exchange announced it had set a record volume of sales for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2001. Average daily share volume was reported at 24.9 million shares, an increase of 24 percent, compared with the same period in fiscal 2000. BSE also reported record gains for the calendar year ending Dec. 31, 2000, 5.6 billion for the year 2000, and an increase of 29 percent from the previous year. On an average daily basis, the BSI’s daily volume rose from 17.4 to 22.4 million shares per day.
