Rhode Island gasoline prices rose an average of 6 cents per gallon over the past week, to the same level as a year ago, according to AAA Southern New England. It was the first increase this year in the auto club’s weekly survey.
AAA’s Feb. 12 survey of gas prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, unleaded regular averaging $2.239 per gallon, 6 cents more than last week but still 18 cents less than at the beginning of the year. One year ago, the average price was also $2.239.

The range in prices for self-serve regular in the latest survey was 22 cents, from a low of $2.179 to a high of $2.399, the nonprofit auto club reported. AAA reported wider price ranges for other grades of fuel, and advised motorists to shop around.
Average self-serve prices for other grades of fuel this week were $2.359 per gallon for midgrade unleaded; $2.479 for premium unleaded; and $2.689 for diesel.
