Karen Donohue Fleer has joined the accounting firm of Rooney, Plotkin & Willey as marketing coordinator. In the newly created position, she will be responsible for enhancing the firm’s marketing communications as well as providing support for trade exhibits, special events, and business development. Fleer’s experience includes marketing communications management for a nationally ranked architecture firm, an academic medical center, and an international chemical company. For several years she has operated her own business, writing for corporations, colleges, and healthcare concerns throughout the Northeast.

BANKING
Carl M. Amaral has been promoted to branch manager of Washington Trust Company’s Narragansett office. He is responsible for managing the office and developing and managing commercial lines of business in the Narragansett area. With over 15 years of banking experience, Amaral was one of the original members of the staff that opened the Narragansett office in 1989. He has served as assistant branch manager of the bank for nine years. The West Kingston resident is a member of the Wakefield Rotary club, South Kingstown Economic Development Committee, and the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce.
COMMUNICATIONS
Joshua N. Fenton has been named to the ownership group of RDW Group. As a senior vice president of the firm, Fenton oversees RDW’s business development program. He first joined the company in 1996 as a senior account executive. He left the agency in 1997 to direct business development at the former Leonard/Monahan, where he added such clients as Foster Grant Sunglasses, Washington Times Online and Lindt Chocolate. Fenton rejoined RDW in 1998, and has obtained such clients as South County Hospital, Bacou, Higher Education of Rhode Island and Roger Williams Park Zoo. He also oversees RDW’s partnership with Mammoth Studios.
Karienne Stovell has been named managing editor of the book division at Manis-ses Communications Group, Inc. of Providence. She will direct an effort to expand Manisses efforts to serve a market of mental health and addiction professionals with professional resource materials. A native of London, England, Stovell has been with Manisses since 1995. She previously held positions in teaching and human service counseling.

William F. Richard has joined Halperin & Co., a financial service organization located in Warwick, as a planning consultant. Prior to joining the company he worked as an independent registered representative. He will specialize in the areas of educational funding, retirement planning, life insurance and mutual funds. Richard holds an NASD Series 7 and multiple insurance licenses. He is a graduate of the University of California Santa Cruz.
FUND RAISING
Robert M. Turcotte has been hired as the director of the URI Convocation Center’s private fund raising campaign. Turcotte, who left his position as director of the athletic department at Northeastern University earlier this month, was chosen from a national field of 50. His duty now will be to solicit gifts and provide support for the volunteers and development staff during their solicitation efforts for the University’s Convocation Center, a $43.6 million facility of which $15 million will be raised through private donations. A Woonsocket native, he brings with him 13 years of experience in athletic administration, sports management and fund raising in National Collegiate Athletic Association athletics.

Michael R. Kubik has been named the new vice president of marketing services at the medical professional mutual insurance company Pro-Mutual. He had been regional vice president of MMI Companies, in Illinois. A 1984 graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Kubik has more than 13 years of experience in the sales and marketing of professional liability insurance. Operating in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, ProMutual provides medical professional liability insurance coverage to nearly 12,000 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurse-midwives.
MANUFACTURING
Christopher Semonelli of Middletown has been named president of sales and marketing for Erez USA, a division of Erez Israel thermoplastic products. Semonelli oversees national sales an marketing activities from the company’s technical and marketing support office. Semonelli joined the high-performance, polymer-based, woven and coated fabrics design company from Intertape Polymer Group of Montreal, where he served as eastern sales manager. Prior to that he held several positions, including vice president of sales, at Cooley Inc. in Pawtucket. during his 12-year career there. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University.
OPTICS
Greg Jones has joined Swarovski Optik North America, Ltd. as product manager for Swarovski company Kahles Rifle Scopes. He will oversee the sales and distribution activities for the Kahles line of 30MM riflescopes made in Austria. Before joining Kahles, Jones worked as a manufacturer’s rep in the outdoor market with the firm of Heller & Levin Associates and later as sales manager for Colt’s Manufacturing Company. A graduate of the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, with a degree in business administration, Jones was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and served in Vietnam for two years as a helicopter pilot.
SOFTWARE
Larry Risso has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing of Crompton Systems Corporation, a software application development, outsourcing, and integration services firm located in Pawtucket. Risso, who has held positions in sales and sales management in pre-press printing and heavy equipment, will be responsible for developing business in the manufacturing and distribution industry within New England.
