Gedaly Levin
Gedaly Levin has been named staff applications engineer of Cherry Semiconductor. Levin, who has extensive experience in power conversion, rejoins Cherry after a two-year stint with IMP, Inc. in San Jose, California. His responsibilities will include standard and custom product definition for computer and automotive products, strategic account support, product testing, problem resolution and implementation of technical literature and technical seminars.

Curt Hooper, formerly of Southern Rhode Island Newspapers, has been named account executive at NYBOR.com. NYBOR is a Vermont-based business Internet solutions company, with additional offices in Norwood, Mass., and Tampa, Florida. The company specializes in health care and finance, along with other industries.

Brian Dugas
Brian Dugas has been promoted to MIS Director of Summit Technical Services, Inc., a leading temporary high technology staffing firm. Dugas will oversee all aspects of Summit’s MIS technology department and will assist the board of directors in all systems decisions in order to keep Summit’s technology on the cutting edge. A graduate from Rhode Island College in 1995, Dugas immediately joined Summit’s MIS department. Most recently, he held the position of Systems Engineer.

Yushin Precision Equipment Co., LTD (YPE) achieved ISO 9001 Certification. The certification has increased customer satisfaction and increased business potential. Yushin America, Inc., is an American-owned company in joint venture with Yushin Precision Equipment Co., Ltd., of Japan, one of the world’s largest suppliers of robots for the injection molding industry.

Dr. Bertram Herzog
Dr. Bertram Herzog, vice president and COO of the Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics in Providence, was recently awarded the Fraunhofer Service Medal. It is the highest honor awarded by Fraunhofer Gessellschaft, the German company that is one of the largest research and development networks in the world. Dr. Herzog, only the twelfth recipient of the award, was recognized for his expertise in the field of computer graphics and his service to Fraunhofer. He has played a major role in developing the Providence-based research center, expanding its role in the study of 3-dimensional computer graphics and interactivity in the essential areas of digital security technologies, scientific computer graphics, scientific and medical visualization and collaborative global environments. He was also a consultant in establishing the Fraunhofer Institute for computer Graphics in Rostock, Germany, following the reunification of Germany in 1989.

Mereco Technologies Group Companies and its divisions MERECO (Metachem Resins Corporation) and DMS Inc. of West Warwick have successfully passed their semi-annual surveillance audit. The audit is required to maintain certification to ISO 9000 standards. No Non-Conformance Notices were issued to Mereco as a result of this audit. The company was awarded certification to the ISO 9001 Quality Standard in December of 1997 by DNV Certification, Inc.

Bob DeAngelis has been hired as director of business development for MontegoNet Solutions. In this newly created position, he will be responsible for internal operations, pursuing outside investment, and developing new areas for corporate growth. He most recently worked as a lead analyst for Chiquita Brands International, where he served as a team leader within the international consulting department. MontegoNet is in the interactive kiosk market.
