EG&G EPD’s seals are used in aircraft, missiles, satellites, space shuttles, and weapon systems. They are also used in power generating gas turbines, aircraft engines, nuclear valves, production machinery and equipment, turbochargers, and boiler feed pumps at both high and low pressures. These products help reduce fuel consumption, decrease downtime, speed replacement, and lower life cycle costs.
“We possess hundreds of solutions to sealing problems,” states Marvin Pelser, vice president of EG&G Engineered Products and its general manager. “But if one of our existing products doesn’t meet a customer’s needs, we have the manufacturing and engineering expertise to custom design and fabricate exactly what a customer wants. That’s one of the things that separates us from our competitors.”
Recent changes at EG&G EPD kicked-off a new direction for the division, changes that promise to boost corporate growth. In March, the manufacturer placed all its products under one brand name-Centurion Mechanical Seals. The change in product designation is designed to reflect changes in the company’s structure and focus, which included the divestiture of its Industrial Division last year. The new designation underscores its products’ leadership capabilities in the power-generation, industrial, and medical markets.
“Our customers value our products for their reliability and proven performance as well as for their engineering strength, discipline, and responsiveness,” explains Chuck Nevola, manager, business development. “We wanted a brand name that embodied all those qualities. We chose Centurion.”
In addition, the company is placing greater emphasis on sales of its innovative brush seals. Designed to replace traditional seals in large or small gas turbine secondary and tertiary flow gas paths, brush seals are comprised of an array of densely packed, high temperature capable, low wear bristles, configured on an angle of approximately 45 degrees with the tangent of its adjacent shaft.
“These seals are ideal for applications in the power generation industry, an area that we feel will continue to grow in the coming years,” say Pelser. “The changes we’ve made over the past few months position us perfectly to take advantage of this growing market well into the next century.”
