Citizen’s parent eyes U.S. again

Royal Bank of Scotland Group
Plc, the U.K.’s second-biggest bank by assets and parent company of Citizen’s Bank, is seeking more
acquisitions in the U.S., Chief Executive Officer Fred Goodwin
told German business daily Handelsblatt.

Royal Bank of Scotland agreed in September to buy
Commonwealth Bancorp Inc. for about $450 million to expand in
Pennsylvania and bought the consumer-banking network of Mellon
Financial Corp. for $2.2 billion last December.

“There are still some interesting banks that we’re looking
at there,” Goodwin told the newspaper in an interview. The
company is focusing on the savings business, which Goodwin reckons
is less vulnerable to swings in economic growth.

Goodwin ruled out making any acquisitions in Europe for the
time being, the newspaper said. The bank doesn’t need to increase
its capital, Goodwin told the newspaper.
