CVS/pharmacy presented a $2.1 million check to the ALS Therapy Alliance Monday night at Fenway Park, before the Red Sox vs. Yankees game.
CVS/pharmacy President and CEO Tom Ryan delivered the check to Dr. Robert Brown Jr., MD, PhD, a founding member of the ALS Therapy Alliance, who also is director of the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND).

Throwing out the first pitch were Avicahi Kremer, an ALS patient from Israel who is living in Cambridge, Mass.; John Palow, store manager of the CVS/pharmacy location, in Las Vegas, that raised the most money in the campaign; and Sarah Watkins, store manager of the Portsmouth, N.H., location that raised the most per-customer.
The money will support amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research initiatives at medical centers in Boston and around the world. It was raised by the Woonsocket-based chain through a customer-donation campaign held June 3 to 24 in stores nationwide.
CVS has raised nearly $8 million for ALS research since launching the campaign in 2002. It has partnered in the drive with the Red Sox, whose players Curt Schilling and Mike Timlin also are longtime supporters of the fight against ALS.
