PROVIDENCE – The Department of Environmental Management has scheduled a public hearing on Tuesday (Dec. 18) on a draft permit for a discharge elimination system it plans to reissue to Clariant Corporation of Coventry. Clariant manufactures dyes and organic chemicals and operates a wastewater facility for its own processes as well as those from DyStar, L.P., a manufacturer of dyes and from Rhode Technologies, a pharmaceutical manufacturer, which it discharges after treatment through an outfall pipe to the south branch of the Pawtuxet River. The hearing will be at 5 p.m. in Room 300 in DEM headquarters at 235 Promenade Street in Providence. Written comments will be accepted until 4 p.m. Dec. 19.
