PROVIDENCE – In response to misuse and abuse of licensing and identification by those involved in the Sept. 11 attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles announced that it would review its procedures for issuing licenses and identification cards. One change under consideration is digitizing the photographs taken for licenses and IDs, which would then be filed for comparison in future applications and references. Gary Clark, tax administrator for the state of Rhode Island, said, “Our goal is to prevent fraudulent drivers’ licenses and identification from being obtained.”
