U.S. Sen. Jack Reed announced late last week that the Department of the Navy is signing a long-term contract with General Dynamics to procure six Virginia class submarines. The $8.7 billion contract will be undertaken by GD’s Electric Boat division, which employs 8,500 workers at Quonset Davisville and Groton, Conn.
