Merrill W. Sherman, president and chief executive officer of Bank Rhode Island, has been elected chairperson of the board of directors at the Textron/Chamber of Commerce Academy. She serves on the boards of numerous local non-profit organizations as well as the Rhode Island School of Design and the Providence Worcester Railroad. Sherman is chairperson of the 2000-2001 United Way of Southeastern New England Campaign. She is a resident of Providence.
