Dr. Leona Misto has been named vice president for mission integration and planning at Salve Regina University in Newport. A Religious Sister of Mercy, she has served as a professor and administrator at the university for more than two decades. Her work now will be to promote and preserve the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy and to strengthen the Catholic identity of Salve Regina. Sister Leona is a professor of mathematics and education and has served as chairperson of the mathematics department, dean of the campus ministry, and director of graduate extension studies. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Salve Regina, a master’s in religious studies from Providence College, a master’s in teaching in mathematics from Rhode Island College, a doctorate in higher education from Nova Southeastern University, and a certificate in educational management from Harvard University.
