Hopkinton, Mass.-based EMC Corp., the world’s largest maker of network data-storage systems, agreed
to buy closely held software maker Prisa Networks Inc. for $20
million in cash to gain new products.
The purchase, to be announced today, will strengthen an
agreement with Dell Computer Corp. to sell EMC’s mid-sized storage
devices because Dell already distributes San Diego, California-
based Prisa’s software, EMC Executive Vice President Erez Ofer
said.

The deal is EMC’s eighth software acquisition in three years.

after competition from International Business Machines Corp. and
Hitachi Ltd. forced it to cut hardware prices.

storage devices from a variety of vendors installed on a computer
