Factory reports show production slowing

March and orders placed with U.S.
factories increased less than expected in February, government and
private reports showed.

The economy is moving “from explosive growth to good
growth,” said Richard DeKaser, chief economist at National City
Corp. in Cleveland. “Companies are basically keeping pace with
demand and building some inventories.”

The National Association of Purchasing Management-Chicago
said its main business index dropped to 57.6 this month from 63.6
in February. Factory orders rose 0.3 percent following a revised
0.9 percent decrease in January, the Commerce Department said in
Washington.
