The John E. Fogarty Foundation for Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities recently recognized two members of the regional community for their work and advocacy on behalf of those with disabilities at an awards reception marking the foundation’s 45 years.
A. Anthony Antosh was recognized with the Fogarty Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award for his 35 years of work in special education. Antosh is the director of the Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities and a professor of special education at Rhode Island College.
U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy received the Leadership Award for his legislative efforts on behalf of those with disabilities. Kennedy was a sponsor of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008.
The Fogarty Foundation was established by the late U.S. Rep. John E. Fogarty to provide grants to agencies that offer services and programs to those with special needs. The event raised more than $75,000 to support the foundation. •
