Gas prices down for eighth straight week

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have fallen to an average of $1.879 per gallon of regular unleaded, down 3 cents from last week and as low as they’ve been since the rapid price increases of last spring, according to AAA Southern New England.

Gas prices have dropped for eight weeks in a row, AAA reported after its Dec. 27 price survey, declining 20 cents in two months. Prices haven’t been this low since self serve unleaded averaged $1.819 in early May, just prior to the quick jump to all-time record levels in June. The price was $1.549 at this point a year ago.
