Gas prices near record high again

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have increased for the fourth consecutive week, and are now up to $2.10 per gallon for self-serve regular gas, just three cents short of the all-time record high, according to AAA Southern New England.

AAA’s March 28 survey found the average price of regular gas was up five cents from the previous week, and 19 cents from a month ago. The record high for self-serve regular unleaded in Rhode Island is $2.13, last June. The price was $1.77 at this point a year ago.

AAA continues to find a wide range of prices, this week 20 cents, from $2.00 to $2.20. Mid-grade gas averaged $2.21 this week (ranging from $2.10 to $2.30). Premium was selling for an average of $2.31 (from $2.20 to $2.40), and diesel prices averaged $2.38 (from $2.30 to $2.46).
