Gillette’s 3rd-Qtr net rises

Gillette Co., the world’s largest
razor maker, said third-quarter profit climbed 18 percent because
the company sold more Mach3 shavers and Duracell batteries and
benefited from a decline in the U.S. dollar.

Net income rose to $416 million, or 41 cents a share, from
$354 million, or 33 cents, a year earlier, Boston-based Gillette
said in a statement. Sales increased 11 percent to $2.41 billion,
bolstered 5 percentage points by a weaker U.S. dollar.

The Mach3Turbo Champion helped boost revenue 17 percent at
the razor unit, Gillette’s biggest business, while the August
power blackout in North America sparked an increase in Duracell
battery sales.
