Hasbro revenues up through first quarter

Today, Hasbro Inc. reported first quarter results showing net revenues for the quarter were $474 million compared to $461 million a year ago, including a $21 million positive impact from foreign exchange.

“We are pleased with the continued progress we made during the first quarter, given the uncertain retail environment,” said Alfred J. Verrecchia, president and CEO. “Revenues were up 2.7 percent, we continued to improve earnings, increased our dividend, and strengthened our balance sheet.”

In a release distributed by Business Wire, the world’s second-largest toymaker said it saw strong revenue increases in its U.S. toys segment, which it credited to brands such as Playskool, Transformers and Super Soakers. Hasbro’s board game business experienced significant growth in the children’s and pre-school categories which was slightly offset by a decline in the adult game category.
