Helping build a high-tech supply chain

Greg Foreman has been named president of Dean Warehouse Inc., a 26-year-old, family-owned warehousing, logistics, supply-chain management and transportation company based in Lincoln. Before his promotion, Foreman served as vice president of Dean Warehouse for four years. Before that, he spent more than 10 years as a vice president at a West Coast distribution company; he has also worked as an independent consultant.

FOREMAN: I have worked in the warehousing, logistics and transportation industries for approximately 25 years. Prior to joining Dean Warehouse Inc., I served as a consultant for a number of America’s largest manufacturing companies.

PBN: How has Dean Warehouse changed in the past decade?

FOREMAN: The growth of Dean has been dramatic, from 200,000 square feet to nearly 2 million, but the core business approach has remained the same. We are a family business, and the Dean family is committed to making Rhode Island a better place to live. We work as a team. Brad Dean Jr. [vice president and son of company founder and CEO Bradford A. Dean], our managers and I work to provide the highest level of logistic support to our warehousing and transportation customers.

PBN: What is the Dean Integration System?

FOREMAN: Dean’s Integration System is over 600 percent more effective in tracking product than traditional manual pick-and-pack. The system allows clients’ enterprise resource planning software to leverage and track the information provided through the warehouse management system. That ensures that the manufacturing process, warehousing, transportation and order fulfillment process are fully integrated.

PBN: Who developed the system?

FOREMAN: Dean developed the proprietary software in conjunction with DRL Technical Services and Spectrum Technical Services. These two technology firms are deeply experienced in developing logistics software. No other [supply-chain management] firm in the region has developed this type of technology.
