Hussein to be interrogated by CIA

Saddam Hussein will be interrogated
by operatives of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told reporters at the Pentagon, as he
discussed the capture of the deposed Iraqi dictator.

Rumsfeld said he has talked with CIA chief George Tenet
about the questioning, and the intelligence agency will decide on
what will be asked and the use of information gleaned from
Hussein, 66. He was captured in a burrow on a farm Saturday.

“They’re the people who have competence and professionals
in that area, and they know the needs we have in terms of counter-
terrorism,” Rumsfeld said.

The defeated Hussein might be able to help the U.S. identify
figures in the resistance against the occupation of Iraq and
offer clues about the extent of the chemical and biological arms
development that prompted the war. Hussein seems “resigned” to the questioning, Rumsfeld said
in Washington, when asked to describe the captive’s demeanor.
