Pawtucket Mayor James E. Doyle has been named the recipient of the 2004 Arts Advocate Award, presented by the Arts & Business Council of Rhode Island. Under his stewardship, Pawtucket has developed an aggressive policy in attracting and supporting artists and arts organizations. Doyle has worked to develop its 307-acre arts and entertainment district- the largest in the state- as part of his “pro-business” agenda. He was also instrumental in securing $325,000 in community development block grants to help renovate the Pawtucket Armory as an arts center and new home for the Gamm Theatre.
