Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI), joined by Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) and Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci, Jr., yesterday called upon state leadership to establish a Rhode Island Economic Response Task Force.
Such a task force would be established to assist employees and businesses in dealing with the adverse economic impacts of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. It would be comprised of individuals from business, federal, state and local government, labor, public interest and professional associations from across Rhode Island to coordinate a statewide economic response.

Kennedy hosted a meeting this week in his Pawtucket district office with travel industry and economic leaders concerning the issue. The group included Dale Venturini, president of the Rhode Island Hospitality and Tourism Association; James Bennett, chairman and CEO of the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority; Keith Stokes, executive director of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce; John Gregory, president of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce; James Hagan, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce; Ann Bates, president of the East Bay Chamber of Commerce; Juana Horton, executive director of the Rhode Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; John Galvin, chief financial officer of Collette Vacations in Pawtucket; and Peter Conway, president of Cumberland’s Conway Tours.
