PROVIDENCE – Sen. James C. Sheehan, D-Narragansett, and Rep. Donna M. Walsh, D-Charlestown, will serve as co-chairs of the General Assembly’s Permanent Joint Committee on Economic Development.
According to a news release, the co-chairs of the standing committee were named as part of appointments to the committee recently announced by Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed and earlier in the year by House Speaker Gordon D. Fox.
The Permanent Joint Committee on Economic Development was created by the General Assembly to promote and encourage the preservation and development of new and existing industry, business, commerce, agriculture, tourism and recreational facilities in the state.
Others senators named to the committee included Sen. David E. Bates. R-Barrington; Sen. Erin P. Lynch. D-Warwick; and Sen. Frank Lombardo III, D-Johnston.
Other representatives serving on the committee are Rep. Patricia L. Morgan, R-West Warwick; Rep. Richard P. Morrison, D-Bristol; Rep. Brian C. Newberry, R-North Smithfield; Rep. Lisa Tomasso, D-Coventry; and Rep. Thomas Winfield, D-Smithfield. •
