Leland R. Merrill Jr. has been named vice president, commercial real estate lender at BankNewport. He is responsible for commercial lending origination and servicing for Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. He previously worked at Citizens Bank as a vice president in commercial lending. Merrill is a member of the board of management for the Cranston YMCA, where he serves as vice president. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington and his master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island. He and his family live in Cranston.
