PROVIDENCE – The company responsible for the high-tech battery powering the newly landed Mars Curiosity rover is in the middle of moving to Rhode Island, according to The Associated Press.
Yardney Technical Products, which created the lithium ion battery powering the Curiosity rover, is in the process of moving from Stonington, Conn., to East Greenwich.

According to the news source, the company made the batteries for other space missions, including the Spirit and Opportunity rovers and the Pheonix spacecraft.
The Yardney battery works in conjunction with the Mars rover’s plutonium power generator.
