MGM, BLB have plans for R.I. racetrack

MGM Mirage and BLB Investors LLC have
proposed plans to expand and upgrade Rhode Island’s Lincoln Park
dog racetrack in the event that they acquire the property as part
of a purchase of its owner, Wembley Plc, the Boston Herald
reported.

MGM and BLB are the lead bidders for Wembley, a British
gaming company, the Herald said. BLB’s group includes Kerzner
International Ltd., the original manager and investor of the
Connecticut casino, Mohegan Sun, and Starwood Capital, a unit of
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc.

A BLB spokesman said the company plans to invest a minimum
of $100 million in the Rhode Island dog track, though he declined
to give details, the paper reported.

MGM told Rhode Island legislators it would more than double
the number of slot machines at the track to 5,000. The company
has mentioned plans to spend $300 million on the track, the
Herald said.
