Multifamily home sales decline

WALTHAM — Sales of multifamily homes declined last year by 5.6 percent, according
to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors. The decrease in sales of two, three
and four family homes, follows a decade of steady growth in multifamily home sales
since 1991. The largest decline sales occurred in Greater Boston, where real estate
observers suggested a lack of available inventory frustrated buyers, resulting
in a decrease of 19.8 percent. On the other side , however, multifamily home sales
grew on Cape Cod by 21.6 percent, the South Shore by 13.2 percent, Greater Fall
River and Greater New Bedford by 8.8 percent, and Worcester County by 8.4 percent.
