WESTBORO — National Grid USA moved closer to its acquisition of Niagara Mohawk, the western New York utility when that company’s stockholders approved the proposed merger. Joining the two companies would create the nation’s ninth largest utility with 3.8 million customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and New York, the Associated Press reported.
