The Department of the Navy notified U.S. Senator Jack Reed that it will sign a multiyear contract for the procurement of five Virgina classsubmarines. Electric Boat (EB) will produce the submarines for the Navy.
The multi-year, $8.4 billion contract for advance procurement of the submarines will make the subs less expensive to produce, saving the federal government millions of dollars and guaranteeing workforce stability. EB employs about 8,500 people in Quonset, Rhode island and Groton.
