Navy renews maintenance pact with EB

GROTON, Conn.– Electric Boat has won renewal of its contract with the Navy for operation of the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department at the submarine base at Groton. Electric Boat also operates a hull fabrication and outfitting facility at Quonset Point, employing a total of about 9,000 people at the two sites. The contract from the naval Sea Systems Command will pay Electric Boat $8.3 million, the Associated Press reported. The contract calls for EB to provide a core staff of at least 20 people to the maintenance department, and up to 60 if needed. EB employs about 240 people at the Naval Submarine Support Facility. The company also provides repair crews to augment repair teams at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard at Kittery, Maine, when needed.
