BOSTON — Hoping to avoid a situation similar to California’s energy crisis, New England industry leaders and lawmakers will meet in Washington, D.C. tomorrow to discuss the development of a regional energy strategy.
65-70 are expected to participate in the meeting, including Representative Edward Markey (D-MA), ranking member of the House Commerce committee; Senator Frank Murkowski (R-AK), chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee; Senator Robert Smith (R-NH), chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee; and Linda Key Breathitt, commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Business leaders scheduled to attend include Richard Sergel, president and CEO of National Grid USA; Russell Mellor, president and CEO of Yankee Atomic Electric Company; and Stephen Fabiani, vice president of retail sales and marketing for Select Energy, Inc.

The group will discuss the California energy crisis as well as natural gas prices and supply, home heating oil, New England’s electricity marketplace and nuclear power and waste.
The meeting is sponsored by The New England Council, a non-profit organization focused on promoting regional economic growth and quality of life.
