Participating companies will be split by three categories for the competition: 15 to 24 employees, 25 to 199 and more than 200 employees.

The Best Companies Group surveys the employees in the participating companies to ascertain their status as “best companies.”

A fee based on the size of your company – ranging from about $700 to $1,100 is required. Each company keeps the results of the company’s survey whether or not they win. Companies are assured of complete confidentiality. The information compiled as part of the process will not be available to the public in any form other than the list of selected companies that will be published by PBN and what the winners have agreed to for their winning announcement.

The “Best Places to Work” initiative represents another effort on the part of the newspaper to reach out to the business community and recognize excellence – a natural offshoot of the paper’s successful “Business Excellence Awards” program, which will enter its fifth year later this fall.

“We are pleased to be expanding our awards programs to include Best Places to Work in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass.,” said Roger C. Bergenheim, publisher of Providence Business News. “Plus, companies will receive quality research about their workplaces at a very reasonable cost. We look forward to the results and to honoring the winners next April.”

Companies interested in finding out more about the “Best Places to Work” program should visit www.bestplacestoworkri.com. The Best Companies Group is making the surveys available online or on paper to participants.

The deadline for entrants is Sept. 30. Providence Business News will notify the winners by phone and in writing and will host an event honoring the “Best Places to Work” in Rhode Island in April 2006.
