People’s gets two association awards

MIDDLETOWN – People’s Credit Union was recently honored with two first-place awards from the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island.
For the second consecutive year, the credit union earned the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award and the Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Award for the Credit Union’s asset category.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes a credit union’s efforts to strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of nonmembers through community outreach programs other than personal finance education.
People’s winning entry discussed the Credit Union’s efforts with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Employees regularly plan fundraisers for the Society throughout the year, including raising money for Pennies for Patients and the annual Light the Night Walk.
The Louise Herring Philosophy in Action award recognizes a credit union’s efforts to materially improve members’ lives through programs other than personal finance education.
People’s winning entry was on the My CU Savings Club and My CU Checking Accounts. The entry covered the credit union’s effort to educate today’s youth on the credit union difference and the value of money.
The Credit Union’s winning entries will go on to the national competition given through the Credit Union National Association. National winners will be honored at the Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., in February 2012.
