BOSTON — PerkinElmer, Inc., a life sciences, optoelectronics, instruments and fluid sciences company, saw its income for the first quarter of 2001 increase 21 percent over last year.
The company earned $32.7 million, or 63 cents per share, compared to $27 million, or 54 cents per share, during the same period a year ago.

During the most recently completed quarter, revenues grew 6 percent to $426 million, the company said. PerkinElmer also recently acquired Applied Surface Technology, a maker of semiconductor processing subsystems.
