Philip L. Friend has been named senior vice president, retail lending at The Washington Trust Company. He has been with the bank since 1969, holding various positions of increasing responsibility. Friend most recently worked as vice president, retail lending, overseeing the mortgage, consumer lending and merchant services product lines. He is a graduate of both New England Institute of Technology and Mitchell College in New London, Conn. Friend lives in Westerly.
