Rhode island Governor Donald Carcieri has a good chance at keeping his seat after the 2006 election, according to a poll by Brown University.
At least 44 per cent of respondents in the Ocean State would vote for the Republican incumbent in head-to-head contests against two Democratic politicians, the report shows.

Carcieri was elected in November 2002, defeating Democrat challenger Myrth York with 55 per cent of the vote. He took over on January 2003 from fellow Republican Lincoln Almond.
Carcieri holds an 11 per cent advantage over lieutenant governor Charles Fogarty, and a 16 per cent lead over former attorney general Sheldon Whitehouse.
