Bancorp Rhode Island, Inc. and Amica Mutual Insurance Company of Providence, RI will be two of 104 companies honored at The Boston Club’s Corporate Salute, a biennial celebration that recognizes companies in New England with two or more women directors.
The list was compiled from public companies and the largest employers in New England. The number of companies being honored this year is up from 84 companies in 2003, the last time the organization compiled the data. The Boston Club began tracking these statistics in 1997.
“The increase in the number of companies with women directors indicates that CEOs from across New England are recruiting women for their boards,” said Lou Richardson, president of The Boston Club. “Massachusetts leads the other New England states in the number of companies with more than two women directors,” he said.
Maggie Wilderotter, president and CEO of Citizens Communications, will be the keynote speaker at the event, and will address over 600 business leaders. The Boston Club will also release its 2005 Census of Women Directors and Executive Officers, which tracks the numbers of women directors and executive officers of 100 largest public companies in Massachusetts.
The Boston Club is the region’s leading organization for senior executive and professional women. It was founded in 1976 to promote the professional advancement of women.
