Providence-based Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects announced Friday that the firm has helped design the recently unveiled “American Locomotive Works” development on Valley Street.
Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse, a Baltimore-based developer with a local office in Olneyville, revealed plans for the $333-million project on Wednesday. The project will take place on 22.5 acres of former industrial land on Valley Street through 2008.

Emily Hall, a spokeswoman for Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels, said the American Locomotive Works development is the largest of the firm’s projects since it was founded in 1994. The firm began working on the project in November 2004, she said, but it had waited to disclose its role in the development until Struever Bros. unveiled the project.
Experienced in adaptive reuse of historic buildings, the Providence firm was also the architect for the Westminster Street Lofts downtown. In that project, six historic buildings were converted into 200 loft-style apartments with retail space on the first floor.
