R.I. COVID-19 cases rise by 262, with 3 new deaths

PROVIDENCE – Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Rhode Island increased by 262, with three new deaths, the R.I. Department of Health said Wednesday.

The daily case count was the highest in the state since April 29.

Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients in the state total 38, an increase of one day to day. Of those hospitalized, six are in intensive care units and five are on a ventilator.

The department said there have been 122.4 new cases per 100,000 Rhode Island residents in the past seven days, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define as “high transmission.”

To date, there have been 660,846 individuals fully vaccinated in the state, as well as 1.33 million total COVID-19 vaccine doses administered.

Confirmed cases in the state total 155,287 to date, an increase of 302 from figures reported on Tuesday, accounting for the day-to-day increase as well as data revisions for previous days.

Deaths due to the virus in Rhode Island total 2,743 to date.

There were 6,906 tests processed on Tuesday, with an overall positive rate of 3.8%. When excluding both repeat positive and repeat negative test results, the positive rate was 16.5%. 

There have been 4.64 million tests administered in the state to 987,054 individuals.
