Raytheon Co., the world’s largest missile maker, combined two service and repair units to improve product quality and customer service.
A business that helps train troops and manages supplies at
U.S. military bases and weapons-testing ranges was merged with a
unit that that helps the U.S. government monitor and reduce
weapons in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan to form a new unit
called logistics and training systems, Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon said in a statement. Raytheon also has a facility in Portsmouth.

The two operations merging are part of the company’s technical
services division, the largest equipment-services contractor for
the U.S. Department of Defense. The division had $1.4 billion of
sales in the first nine months of last year, or 11 percent of
Raytheon’s $13 billion in revenue.
The new unit, based in Reston, Va., has 4,000 of
Raytheon’s 76,000 employees, and no jobs will be cut and no
plants will be closed because of the combination, Raytheon
spokeswoman Kristen Giddens said.
