Raytheon gets $139 million Navy contract

Raytheon Co., the world’s largest
missile maker, received a U.S. Navy contract for $139.7 million
to make more of its Joint Standoff Weapon, a type of satellite-
guided bomb that was used in Iraq.

Raytheon, which has a Portsmouth location, will make 546 JSOW-A bombs to be used by the Navy
and Air Force, and 97 JSOW-C versions, which include infrared
targeting, for the Navy. The orders will be filled by February
2006, Waltham, Mass.-based Raytheon said in a statement.

The contract is Raytheon’s fifth for the JSOW-A and the
second in less than four months following a $55 million award in
September. The U.S. military has been replenishing its munitions
stockpiles because of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 400
of the JSOW-A bombs have been used in combat since 1999.

The JSOW-C order is Raytheon’s second low-rate production
award, and the company expects to begin full rate production
later this year, spokeswoman Sara Hammond said.
