Raytheon Company has signed a $30 million contract with the Abu Dhabi Department of Civil Aviation to provide state-of-the-art air traffic management and radar systems for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Airports, United Arab Emirates.
Under the contract signed in Abu Dhabi June 12, 2002, Raytheon will provide two AutoTrac II air traffic management automation systems, two L-Band primary surveillance radars, one monopulse secondary surveillance radar, one airport surface detection radar, communications systems, training, documentation and associated civil works.

Along with the multi-million dollar expansion program that has been on going at Abu Dhabi International Airport, these advanced systems are aimed at transforming the airport into a major aviation hub in the Middle East. Al Ain International Airport will have a new radar control station with the latest air traffic control workstations, radar display systems and air traffic management systems. These new technologies will provide both national and international civil air traffic in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with full radar approach services.
“This contract in Abu Dhabi further expands Raytheon’s air traffic management systems presence in the Middle East beyond our current customers in Oman, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia,” said Richard Dinka, Raytheon’s director for Middle Eastern air traffic management programs. “We are pleased to provide in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Civil Aviation a turnkey solution to air traffic control (ATC) modernization.”
Work on this contract will be performed by Raytheon Company’s Air Traffic Management Systems business area in Marlboro, Mass., and Waterloo, Ontario. In addition, Raytheon Systems Limited will supply its MSSR from Harlow, United Kingdom.
