Rear Adm. Barbara McGann is the new executive director of the American Red Cross of Rhode Island, effective upon her retirement from the Navy this summer. A 32-year veteran of the Navy, Admiral McGann has served as the provost at the Naval War College, where she has overseen the school’s academics, research programs and faculty. Originally from Newport, she earned a bachelor’s degree from The College of Our Lady of the Elms in Massachusetts. She has a master’s in management from Salve Regina University and a master’s in national security studies from Georgetown University.
