The number of Rhode Island residents working reached an all-time high in July, according to R.I. Department of Labor and Training Director Adelita S. Orefice.
Orefice said in a news release Friday that the employment level in the state last month was 548,100 workers.

The unemployment rate was also up slightly from June’s, however, going from 5.5 percent to 5.6 percent. The national unemployment figure nationwide for July was 4.8 percent.
Orefice credited the record employment to a strong July in the state’s manufacturing sector. Although the industry generally experiences a decrease in July, due to seasonal adjustments, cutbacks this year were less than they are traditionally.
The state also saw increases last month in financial activities and leisure and hospitality jobs.
